Yoko Ono Protests Parole For John Lennon's Killer
(New York, NY) -- Yoko Ono is protesting the possible parole of Mark David Chapman, the man who killed her husband John Lennon in 1980. "The New York Daily News" reports that Ono has sent a letter to the parole board reviewing the 55-year-old's case. Chapman's serving a 20-years-to-life sentence at Attica in upstate New York. He's scheduled to once again go before a parole board on August 9th. The widow of the famed Beatle has written a letter every two years since Chapman was first eligible for release ten years ago. In Ono's original letter, she wrote, quote, "I am afraid it will bring back the nightmare, the chaos and confusion once again. Myself and John's two sons would not feel safe for the rest of our lives."
On December 8th, 1980, Chapman shot and killed the 40-year-old Lennon as he and Ono were entering their Manhattan home. Several hours earlier Lennon had encountered Chapman, and autographed a copy of his "Double Fantasy" album for the man who would take his life.
